Wills, Probate and Estate Planning
Sensitive and Expert Support Whether Planning for the Future or Dealing with an Estate
If you’re looking for advice on making or amending your Will, planning for the future with a Lasting Power of Attorney, dealing with the estate of a loved one, or if you need advice on Inheritance Tax or setting up a Trust, you’re in the right place. We are a local service that has been around a long time and have helped thousands of people across Derwentside deal with these often-difficult issues.
Our private client team is led by Alan Brown. Alan is a Chartered Legal Executive of over 40 years. He has exceptional experience and knowledge of all aspects of wills, probate and trusts law.
We understand that dealing with these matters can be a stressful or emotional experience. Alan and his team of experts will help advise you and approach your personal circumstances with care, empathy and sensitivity.
We can advise on all aspects of Privet Client work including:
Wills
Many people are put off making a Will as, understandably, they do not wish to consider their own death.
Although it may not be a particularly cheerful thing to do, making your Will means that you have signed an important document which records how you want to deal with the division of your assets upon your death, which can save stress and heartache for those left behind.
Probate & Estate Administration
If your loved one has passed away, we offer sensitive and tactful advice to executors and administrators on all aspects of the probate process.
Our experienced Probate team can assist you with paperwork, from applying for probate through to full estate planning and administration. We can also act as executors on your behalf.
Lasting Powers of Attorney
As no one knows what is going to happen in the future, it is important to ensure that you are protected should any unforeseen events occur.
A Lasting Power of Attorney will ensure that you decide who can look after you and your assets if you are unable to do this for yourself. We will discuss with you how the documents work and take instructions about who will be involved. We take care of all the paperwork and will liaise with the Office of Public Guardians.
Costs
Legal costs can be a concern which is why we give all of our clients clear, straightforward advice on how much their case is likely to cost. We will deal with your case in a cost-effective way and try to keep your costs at a minimum. We offer a range of flexible funding alternatives with fixed fees available on some services, or hourly rates.
